| This & That Latest finds on the Net |
This new feature replaces what used to be the Compunews Newsletters. Look at it as being a 'scratch pad' I use to record all the newbies I find on the net. New entries will be added as they come and will be listed last-in on top! Please click the flippin book below for more info on how to be notified of any update to this feature.

New gems will be added as I find them but, for a starter, you should check the following out.
If you are new to the Internet and are wondering just what it's all about then search no more. The Newtown Bee will answer all of your 'newbie' questions and then more! Since I discovered this little gem, I have spent hours exploring the hundreds of articles and chasing their recommended links all over the map. And I expect to spend much more time doing the same in the near future.
This site is incredible! For example, a visit to the Victor Borge's info page will lead you to a wealth of information on what Seniors can do on the Net. And every 'info page', as the author calls it, is a gold mine of data of interest to any serious surfer.

What really got me all fired up about this site is the incredible amount of useful information it, and the links provided, contain. The site covers subjects which, at first sight, have little to do with 'surfing the Net' yet, in a way, have everything to do with it. For example, I found an article about 'heart attack'. In turn, this article led me to the best sources one could find on the subject on the Net. And I could go on, and on... An Omega's Latest Jewel Award winner! Check it out folks!
This is the best 'Bookmark' utility I have yet found, bar none. Easy to use and it gives you complete control over your bookmarks. What I like most about 'Acquire' is the fact you cna use it as a 'stand-alone' utility. You can print your bookmarks or actually create an HTML page of all your bookmarks! Has many more features. You can even e-mail bookmarks from within the program. Definitely worth a try. Check the details at the author's homepage or get it here
The place to go if you are looking for good Java applets complete with good instructions on how to use.
Superb HTML editor suitable for beginners and old-pros. You can also get it here
This little app does only one thing but it does it extremely well. Add pizzazz to your homepages. Check out the details.
Here's an application which should ease your Net surfing. At any time, you can enter an everyday word or phrase (like a company name, product/brand name, stock ticker, or your own defined nicknames and "one jump" directly to a site -- there's no need to check a search engine to see what the URL for a site is, because 1Jump does that job for you. What I like about 1Jump, beside the fact it is freeware, is that it comes will not add DLLs or other baggage files to your Windows/System directory and comes with an UnInstaller. The main file size is only 304Kb! If in a hurry, you can get it here
Whatever you are looking for, you will probably find it here. One of the most, if not 'the most' comprehensive 'search' site on the Web. A definite bookmark candidate.
The author of this site offers his software under what he calls the 'careware plan'. What a concept! See for yourself... it's worth the trip. His site also includes a feature entitled "HTML for the conceptually challenged!" which is in my opinion one of the easiest and most effective tutorial on the subject of HTML tutoring. And there are many more top-notch programs you can get, all under his revolutionary 'careware concept'. And as an added bonus, the chair-bound sailor will find some fantastic photos and.... well! Go check it out. You won't regret it.
This neat little app will download one file at a time, until the entire list of files has been downloaded.
Here is a program every homepage maker will want. Be creative and make your own backgrounds! As the author says..."it's very addictive" and I add: fun. Reptile is free, but you must get a registration code in order to use it. Registration is painless.
Here you can download the free, real time news ticker that keeps you connected to the latest news and events as it gives you the advantage of up-to-the-minute information. See all the details here.

The author of this site was first awarded the Latest Jewel Award many months ago when she posted her first Homepage entitled "A Universe of Cool Links" I did not think at the time her site could be improved but, I was proven wrong. Her new offering at miningco.com is a winner if ever I saw one and it should be on every surfer's list of favorite links. It certainly is on mine. Well done and continued success.

Imagine an HTML Editor with a download size of only 43K! This feature alone was enough to make me check it out. I think you should too! Handles large files, multiple docs, full screen view, and some nice features not found in editors ten times its size.
I like the author's homepage's opening statement: "Welcome to Marcus Schiesser's Software page. From here you could download my fine software releases. This page is intended to be as small as possible for two reasons: 1.So I do not have to write a lot of senseless stuff 2.You find faster the information you want. Short and sweet! Just like his 'free' program! The EasyOffice includes a word processor, a database and a spreadsheet! 5.5MegBytes.

The only word which can aptly describe this site is "incredible" Indeed, it is incredible that books of such high quality be available, and for Free, on the Internet. You will require a special 'runtime' program to view these books (available on site). Most files are fairly large. To give it a try, i suggest you download and run any one of the featured books and if you like it, as I am sure you will, then you can get the rest (nearly 100 Megabytes of downloading, but worth the effort).
These Electronic PictureBooks are authored by space scientists, engineers, and astronauts for the interest and education of students and the general public. If you have a child at home, or if you like science... you owe it to visit this site. Let me know what you think, OK? This special 'goodie' is also featured at the Astronomy Page This site luckily supports the 'resume' function so... if you use GetRight for your downloading needs, there is no worry of ever losing your partly loaded files in case of power shutdown.
When you download huge files, such as the ones featured at the site listed above, you need a good File Splitter to copy them to floppy disks. What I considered as the best such program now got even better. Yes folks.... Splitter is now in it's Version 3 and it's a winner. Easy to use, it should be in everyone's box of tricks!
There are hundreds of 'Freeware' sites out there containing thousands of various applications. Scanning them all can take much time and effort. Visit Colin's Webpage and discover some of the best, most useful freeware, including an application of his own called 'Scrappy 98+ Pro. An Omega Latest Jewel Award winning page.

I will let the authors describe this fantastic program and, everything they say is true! ' More than just a generic NotePad simulation, with a few special buttons for common HTML tags! SiteAid has been described by one of our users as "...perhaps the finest Freeware HTML Editor available today.". SiteAid does not automatically alter your code in any way. Instead, SiteAid helps take the monotony out of HTML authoring with its many specialized wizards and editors. SiteAid makes quick work of major tasks such as body selections, tables, lists and frames.' I could add much more but will let you find out all about this gem. Check it out.
The only attribute this neat app shares with the old 'CardFile' is the name. Too many features to list. Suffice to say, it will become your database of choice! If you have less than 10,000 cards... this is the app for you. If you need more, no problem: open another cardfile!
No matter how good Win95 is I always missed the old DOS-style Windows Commander. Here's a replacement (32-Bit) that will do just fine. It is called 'Servant Salamander'. It shows two panels and uses the same 'short-cut' keys the old Commander used. And, it does all that Windows Explorer does but better and faster. Couldn't do without.
