The Grand Saloon

"About 9 p.m. we felt a thud and the ship listed - the room was emptied of all furniture except for the grand piano which started to slowly roll towards us." Extract from survivor's testimony"

The Torpedo-boat T-36

Torpedo-boat T-36

"My boat is empty and I start up the ladder. Suddenly I clutch it with all my strength to hold on. With a whoop-whoop! of her siren, the fast little warship has suddenly bounded ahead in the night, executing a steep turn to port." Extract from survivor's testimony"

The Löwe

Torpedo-boat Löwe

Gustloff's only escort ship was the torpedo-boat "Löwe". As soon as the Gustloff was hit by the torpedoes, the crew of the Löwe started to rescue the survivors. They saved 472 people.
