Coming Travel Features

      This is the first of several travel articles planned for 1998. Only the events covering the first 30 days have been uploaded so far. Because of its content, I felt it appropriate to make it immediately available. In the months to come, maps and other features will be added and events covering the remaining 63 days will be uploaded. You may wish to check this page from time to time for updates.


      Following are some of the other upcoming features. If the interest shown in the Desolation Sound Cruise is positive, I will then upload the following, as time permits:


    • Roughing it through the Canadian Rockies; Just the two of us. A four week (tent) camping trip June 1960

    • Repeat camping trip to the Rockies... with our three children. This time, with a folding camping trailer.

    • Touring Europe on a string. A five-week whirl tour through Europe by Eurailpass. A five-day portion of this adventure has been described in Lost tourist in Paris now available online.; This tour took place in early 1977.

    • Cruising the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway to Quebec City then back to Trenton, Ont via the Rideau Canal. A six-week cruise with our son Danny onboard. Describes the fun of locking through huge Seaway locks (8 of them) and 42 smaller locks on the Rideau!; This cruise took place in summer of 1977

    • Gunkholing on Georgian Bay onboard Y-Knot. A four-week cruise exploring Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay in summer 1978. Includes 'fun stuff' such as tasting a tornado, while at anchor at beausoleil Island and more...;

    • Cruising the Canadian East Coast onboard Y-Knot. These cruises took place while I was serving in the RCAF (CAF) in Halifax, circa 1980-82;

    • 406 Squadron Great Reunion of 1983. Wartime air and ground personnel who had served with the Squadron at Middle Wallop, England re-unite at Shearwater.

    • A six-week tour of the Canadian East Coast by motorhome. Visited New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Cap Breton Island. Year: 1981;

    • Touring Canada. A two-month land tour onboard Freebird Express (Centurion 26' motorhome) June - July 1989

    • Return visit to Desolation Sound onboard Auriga (a Tanzer 26') in 1992 and 1994

    • Cruising the Gulf Islands, British Columbia onboard Pegasus, an Owens Friendship 26' cruiser. Summers 1995 - 1996

    • Touring Canada. A three-month land tour onboard Freebird Express II (Empress 26' motorhome) 20 May - 28 Aug 1997

    • Extracts from my book (now out of print) entitled "Time to Live", subtitled "How to retire early (as in 47 year young)"
